MY PRACTICE
I’m Dr. Alison Bateman, and I’ve had a private practice since 2005, and see adults ages 18+ for individual and group psychotherapy. I also am available to serve as an expert witness, particularly in the areas of substance use disorders, and DBT interventions.
I am available for in-person sessions in Redwood City, CA (limited availability), as well as virtual sessions for people in California. My biggest areas of interest include mood and anxiety disorders; stress management; substance use disorders; LGBTQ+-related issues; and chronic illness and pain. I have specialized training in Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD). I enjoy working with older adolescents and adults of all ages, and have notable experience with young adults, having worked at colleges and universities for 13 years. I am in-network with Aetna, and also see folks who are out-of-network and wish to pay out of pocket.
I have an integrative approach to therapy, tailored to each person and the issues they are seeking to address in therapy, but the main approaches I use are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT, in which I hold a certification), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also incorporate mindfulness and Motivational Enhancement/Motivational Interviewing into my work. I have a warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative approach. I use a combination of support, education, proactive interventions, and helping people build skills for coping. It’s very important to me that the people I see in my practice feel like the goals they set are being met and that we can agree on a reasonable time frame to see progress.
